Why don't you fly SFO-FRA on UA and then connect on to MUC with LH? LHR is a nightmare when connecting (and also in many other respects).

In terms of travelling in Y with LH or UA I would also go with UA: E+ makes it worth, even if it were slightly more expensive. In terms of service it always depends what FA you get...
