The customer who brings them more revenue over time and is more loyal to them, which they would assume to be the SE.

How many times do Andrew and others have to telly you that the "point" of offering Y and M fares is NOT to confirm upgrades in the business cabin. That is a benefit of the status program (if it can be done at all), not the point of the fares, which are highly flexible economy fares.

If everyone confirmed a week out and the aircraft went from a 333 to a 343, then some people would be downgraded, don't you think?
