Night 2: A checks into Hilton #2, B still in Hilton #1. After night A checks out
Night 3: A checks back into Hilton #1. After night A & B check out.

Because the room for B is under A's number (and name I guess), What would happen? I'd like 3 stays (for A's back and forth), 3 nights (again only credit for "first" room), but 2x3=6 worth of base points.
Usual advice to get second room credit is to be firm at check-out that you want both rooms combined on one folio. Here, I think you want to do just the opposite. Optimally, you want to check out on night #1, giving the HHonors system the impression that there was only your room for that one night. Thus, your three stays should post just fine. Later, after your own three stays post correctly, send customer service the folio for B's yet-uncredited-room (clearly showing the exact same reservation# as the original stay credit for the room you occupied), requesting missing points for the first night only.

No, you are not entitled to the points for the third night night of his room as you will each be staying under separate reservation numbers.

Good luck on your Diamond quest!
