Trust me it can be. It's customs and excise who get interested if the car doesn't leave the country every 6 months.
As one who avoids the M25 and drives through Hampton Court to get to work I do not have to worry too much. No - as you all guessed there are cameras in someofthe gantreys and some not. The problem is that they are all scheduled to go over to these evil things that are much more sensitive.
Mr Spiff - if you are caught with those kinds of plates - you are in very big trouble and I believe that they can show up on some of the traffic cars cameras. My husband has not been on traffic for many years so I am going from memory but these plates are highly illegal as will the detector devices soon! (if not already)
