The rule is 60 minutes so at 80 minutes you were okay, I guess had it been busy at UC check-in at that time, the twenty minutes you had in hand would soon have passed.

Personally we like to arrive as early as possible and certainly three to four hours ahead of our flights scheduled departure time, to maximise the Clubhouse experience. Since 9/11 security has been a real bottleneck so I guess VS want to make sure that everyone leaves enough time to get through and hence the recent change to the 60 minute rule.
