jeez its that overbooked already?
sounds like a great time to volunteer. I'll make sure to do so. I don't want the upgrade as much as a voucher or a free hotel in newark or something.
Well, considering you live in the vicinity of EWR, I'd hope you'd settle for something slightly more than one night's accommodations for volunteering your seat!
Since it's the last flight out of EWR to MEX I think I'd have to be put up. Or go through IAH which may work. Any ideas or tips as I don't have to be in MEX on that date and I'm very flexible.
It would be a Herculean task to make the last EWR-IAH-MEX connection that night because CO #51 (connecting to CO #1624) is slotted to leave at exactly the same time -- 4:55 pm -- as your current flight. CO's gate agents are going to be highly reluctant to give you voluntary denied boarding compensation and a seat on the alternate flights before the oversell situation becomes unavoidable (e.g. right before CO #1970 closes).
Again, check
Galileo if you want to evaluate alternate options on August 5 and beyond.

In terms of getting bumped off the flight? Or in terms of getting op-upgraded? You'll probably have to take a back seat to revenue passengers and/or actual elites when it comes to snagging an op-upgrade, but if CO is desperate for volunteers to step aside, they'll be happy to take you whether you're an award passenger or a revenue passenger.
