Yes, exactly as I understand it.
To take my example:
Signed up for BAEC in May 04. Got to 600 points in January 05. Points reset to zero but I then had a further 1 year to amalgamate the 1500 points for Gold.
So I will reach Gold in November 05, and (if I understand correctly) I have until the following November (ie Nov 06) plus a couple of weeks, typically, to get 1500 points and retain Gold (and if I get to the 2500 mark I'd get one of the upgrade vouchers).
