Do any of you have some advice for how to dispute this/make this headache go away/steps to be sure to take for resolving it?

Thanks a lot for your advice!
Alamo is still doing that stuff? Call them. Dispute it. Ask for pictures and proof. Dispute it on your credit card. Worst case turn it over to your auto insurance company or credit card. You have a receipt with no damage noted.

Years ago they tried that after I wouldn't take their coverages. They argued with me for over half an hour. They even tried the "We don't accept your insurance company." nonsense. Well it says here your coverage is optional. Unbeknown to me they put a reserve of 18,000 for the car on my corporate AMEX card which triggered a call to our CEO. Who let it slide. I think the hope was that I would not be able to check into the hotel because I would be maxed out.

After I returned the car they tried charging 800.00 for rust spots. After this stunt I told them not to bother and that I would dispute the obvious old damage and they wouldn't get the money anyway. They backed down but only after telling me that if I had their collision damage waiver I would not have had a problem.

Never rent from Alamo.
