I have done it twice already on a Business Class award, just a few days before flying back.
I was told that theoretically you were not entitled to date changes for award tickets, but that they would try and if possible change it. In both instances I got exactly what I asked for.

That's why I like the ROP FFP so much, they will do everything to help you rather than exchanging their seats that they can't sell against your miles.
