I agree with rbedgood 100%. If it's not the hotel's fault, I don't expect anything from the hotel. If it's a one-shot problem that no one could reasonably have prevented, I don't expect anything from the hotel either. If it's a recurrent problem, or something really egregious like several false alarms caused by alarm system failure in the same night, I expect the hotel to do something to make it up to me.
