I'm New to FlyerTalk, But having been flying to Japan over the past few years every month. The company I work for will only cover a coach ticket. Any ideas on getting an upgrade seat?

I've been a Platinum member with Delta for 2 1/2 years and have seen seats empty in first class many times. I've been told by many people they should move me up, but only rarely does this happen.
