Yup! I can agree with that! ATR stands for the Acute Torture Routes.
For the OP....I travel between RSW and MIA quite a bit. In MIA, you will have to take a bus to and from the plane. Arriving MIA you get bussed to E terminal, but you depart MIA from D. It was both in and out of D, but the construction seems to have changed that.
In the old RSW terminal you walked about 25 yds to the plane. I haven't been to the new terminal yet by I suspect it will be about the same.
As for seats...I always try to reserve row 16 or 17, Sometimes the FA will ask me to vacate 17 for them, but it is rare. Even then, they will help you get a seat in the back. Just try to get on early as possible. Hint....in MIA be one of the last to board the bus and you will be one of the first to board the plane.
Anything longer than the RSW-MIA flight on an ATR I will go for row 1. I'd rather walk than spend much more than a half hour in one of the other seats. Unfortunately, since my home base is split between RSW and STT and neither of these have direct flights to all the islands I travel to....I spend way too much time on ATRs getting to MIA or SJU.
But I do like the fact that I get the 500 mile minimum for a 95 mile flight. (actually double that as Plat!)
