I was reading this week of a suggestion in California to deal with their energy crisis by seeking Federal Government approval (required by Uniform Time Act of 1966) to implement Double Daylight Savings Time in the Pacific Time Zone states as of May 1.

By adding an additional hour of daylight, the report projected a 1% to 2% energy savings could be achieved.

I don't know how serious the suggestion was or if there's any official state government support for the concept. It would certainly cause confusion with airline schedules.
