Are these in the same reservation perhaps? If so, Sabre may just go ahead and check you in all the way through.

I've checked in more than 4 hours in advance at the airport on AA, but US would not let me do this last Thursday.

Wish I could be more helpful. Online check in would be nice if it worked for international flights.
