I don't see IDB, they didn't refuse to board you, you didn't present yourself at the right gate in time. I assume at that hour you flew in on a red-eye? Could sleep, being tired, etc. be a contributing factor?
I really have to agree. Usually agents are there well before the scheduled boarding time. If the boarding time comes and no one is there, I think I would at least manage to make a glance at the flight information posted right there at the gate (at which point the flight to STL should be a dead giveaway). I'd look at the sign for indication of a DELAY - if nothing else. Sorry you had trouble. Better luck next time....
