This is a promotion that China Airlines has at the moment. A good deal if you are able to leave on or before June 30th from JFK. 1 year ticket from JFK would be $620 plus some taxes. And from my past experiences, there would be no fees to change your return date, despite what's indicated in the T&C. Also, CI is now offering 10,000 miles one way (instead of the regular mileage, e.g. LAX-TPE would be 6774 normally) for travel from 6/1 - 9/30. And by the way, if you don't want to accrue CI miles, I think you can earn Delta Skymiles as they have recently formed a partnership.
