Back from Vegas. Rented from rent a vet. F355 spider, it was in fairly good condition considering it was a 98 with about 27k miles. Took it to Henderson at the GVR, ate lunch, and returned it. Put about 25 miles on it. Ferrari sucks. Very hot, rattles, soft brakes, drives like a mustang, MG with v-8, or old corvette. Nothing wrong with a mustang or corvette, but you could have 8 mustangs or 4 corvettes for the price of a Ferrari. Shifter is like shifting a UHAUL. Torque curve is very high, from about 5k to 9.5 k. So you do not have a long time for decent acceleration. Below that it is very soft and not fast. Interior quality poor. A lot of plastic, cheap leather, cheap carpet, and no ergonomics. You need a physics major to operate the top. Boot is impossible to put on. Good is the sound of the engine and the exterior styling. You do get a lot of looks and first row valet.

I drive a 911 and the fit, quality, handeling, performance, and comfort blows it away.

I would only buy a Ferrari if it was priced about $30-$40k new. My impression of Ferrari is they charge a lot of money, do not make that many which creates scarcity and the sense of exclusiveness. It is a pretty sculpture but not pleasant to drive. Same reason why people will pay $5 dollars for a designer water, I guess.

This experiance was a big let down for me, kind of like your girlfriend in highschool saying she just wanted to be friends.

I will go by the Ferrari dealership here to drive a new one to make a fair comparison, but my Porsche sales man says that they are not much improved and also very uncomfortable to drive. Biased probably, but Porsche is a lot better car for less than 1/2 the price. I would not recommend driving one, or if you do, not for more than an hour or so. It is hot (engine and poor ac) and requires a lot of driving. You can not let your guard down for a moment.

While I was driving it I kept on thinking FIAT or Fiero-go figure.

Rent A Vet was cool, and allowed me to return it. They gave me most of my money back and offered to put me in something else. By then, I was disappointed I did not want to deal with it. Plus, being labor day, there was not a lot left on their lot.
