There have been numerous instances of aircraft bumping into objects (or being bumped into) during taxi or while on the tarmac, some of which have caused serious injuries. As another poster mentioned, you wouldn't (or shouldn't) sit in a moving car without a seatbelt, so why do it on an airplane with poor suspension and heavy braking?
