As for carry-on - I do carry matches with me in my carry-on. I used to carry lighters, but since I almost always get flagged & if I'm not flagged, I'm refusing to remove my shoes, I stopped carrying them. At 7-11 though, I noticed that they sell cell-phone shaped lighters & I've definitely debated whether its worth the 3.50 to buy one of those & try carrying it on with my carry on...anyone ever try that?

Side note - ever want to see a TSA person breaking the rules? Stop by the smoking room in C Terminal at CVG - I've definitely seen a few TSA folks on break smoking cigarettes with lighters they have behind secure checkpoints. Next time, I think I'll report them. Interestingly enough, I've never seen a TSA person say anything to a traveler who lights up with a lighter while in the smoking room - I guess its because they are on break & don't give a crap then.
