Reserving a seat- system problems?

A separate thread has noted recent problems with MMB, reserving seats etc.

I've been trying to reserve seats on a MAN-LGW-MAN flight, with an H class ticket for the past 36 hours. ba.com lets me select a seat, but falls over at the last step and refers you to the local BA office.

Rang BA and was told you can *never* book a domestic seat in advance!

Told the agent that I did for a similar flight (route/class/BAEC status) last Sunday and that ba.com was clearly having problems (if you can't book the seat, the Request Seat option is not available). The agent referred it to her supervisor who confirmed you can't reverse seats.

I read out the 'Your Questions' text on advance seat reservations and the agent grudgingly accepted the situation. However she too could not reserve a seat for me.

Finally, the agent agreed to forward the request to seating control.

I was amazed at the lack of knowledge of the telephone staff.

However, there is clearly something seriously wrong with some of the BA booking systems.
