This mirrors my experiences to a "T!"
I went out last week on LAX-SYD and the service was mediocre at best, unless you consider grunting at customers exceptional service.
Came back yesterday SYD-SFO. The FA's were fantastic. Never let your water get low, friendly, efficient and - this is going to be hard to believe - actually smiling at the customers.
Count me as one who prefers my SYD trips to have a SFO component in them.
