For someone wanting to see the sights of DC, I strongly recommend staying IN the District as opposed to Metro-ing in. Almost all of the typical tourist attractions are within easy walking distance of Metro Center, and you still have the train if you want to go to Arlington Cemetery (for instance). Park the car and get some exercise--stay in DC!
I was commenting on it not being lively more than suggesting danger. Hey, if its picked up that's great. Walking around DC and the kids will be out like a light and it not matter to them anyway.

You make a much clearer statement about what I was trying to infer to them anyway. In DC or NYC or BOS or SFO or most other big cities, you don't get the full feel unless you stay there. Too hectic for me to live downtown, but I sure try and book hotels there.
