If you are returning to the same hotel in London before your flight back to the US, you should be able to leave a bag or two with the hotel while you are in Ireland.

that's a good idea actually. You will have you and your husband's allowance (23 kg each, so 46 kg total). 46 kg is a heck of a lot of luggage (i really struggle to lift a bag weighing more than 25 kg!), and it seems hard to believe that you would need 46 kg of luggage (plus your 12 handbaggage (again 6 kg each) for four days... that's getting on for 15 kg of luggage per day leaving some in storage would probably make your trip a lot pleasanter to Ireland as you wouldn't have the hassles of carting it around all the time.
