I did similar routing on UA in Feb, ORD-KOA (air miles to ORD). Fare was $750 CAD. My account was credited with ~ 8,500
Status aeroplan points upon return. Find and book the cheapest fare you can on UA (same with US).
YOW - ORD - Hawaii is, by far, the best way to get there (NW and AC flight/travel times are weak). Clear US customs in YOW, great flight and connection time in ORD (8a - 9a, 10a - 3p). You'll be on the beach by 430! Would highly recommend avoiding HNL if you can. Enjoy!
