Would appreciate your advice/ guidance.

I have an award booking next Friday night for the NRT Hilton. As I now intend to stay downtown, I'd like to cancel this booking. My question is: Will the cancellation be accepted and points refunded easily via hilton.com, or are there penalties, restrictions associated with cancellations? If so, any advice for limiting penalties, loss of points etc. Many thanks.
