I will say that Cathay Pacific has improved tremendously since 5 years ago but their schedules generally reek unless you are going only to Hong Kong. SQ flies either non-stop to Singapore from LAX or lay-over in Tokyo, Seoul or Taipei.
Both SQ and CX have hubs respectively that make connections throughout Asia very convenient depending on which continent one is flying from.
