Upgrade after change within 24-hour window

I just made a change to my routing for a flight less than 24 hours in the future. I was told that after a ticket gets re-issued (which takes 30-60 minutes), it then will be put in the EUA queue.

Does anybody know how long I should wait for the u/g before I do OLCI? One of the agents told me there is upgrade space on all 3 segments. So, if there is space the computer should upgrade me automatically, right? It is only when there isn't u/g space that I should expect a battlefield u/g?

I was also told by a different person that if I do OLCI, I get locked in for economy class.

Also, I read this in one of the posts in this forum:

Also recommend you do OLCI at the earliest possible opportunity, if it hasn't cleared before then.
But, I made a change to my itinerary within the 1 day period, so how long does it take for the system to process this? How do I know whether I was denied an u/g, so that I can do OLCI and have the best chance for a battlefield u/g.

I would appreciate if some NW expert could clear up this issue for me ...

Any links to previous posts that discuss this and similar issues would be appreciated ...
