I am a Delta Platinum Medaillion member having traveled nothing but Delta or AF for years. Having to go from the mainland to Hawaii twice in two months, being able to pay for a full fare first class ticket both times and having traveled one of these on Delta once and the other on Continental, I thought it may be of interest to some here to get a comparative travel report. To avoid thread duplication, I will write only about the Continental experience here (as reviewed by somebody who haven't traveled with CO for more than 5 years!). However, I will start a
parallel thread in the Delta Forum describing the comparable Delta experience for those who want to see a head-to-head comparison..
In both instances I traveled with carry-on only and on an electronic ticket. In neither instance did I use the IFE, but they seemed comparable to me.
My outbound trip was on CO 3, LAX-HNL in D, price paid: $1,860, leaving 9:40 am arriving in HNL 12:19 PM
Check in
The Kiosk check-in was not as smooth as I am used to. There were separate OnePass Elite/FC and coach kiosks, both with lines, including big families clogging access to available kiosks up. The lines for both FC and coach kiosks were significant. Even though several kiosks were idle because people having used them were waiting for their luggage tags, the bottleneck of luggage and people in front by people who had completed their kiosk use, prevented the first person to get to them. If somebody tried to go around to get to the idle kiosks they were promptly stopped by a CO agent pointing them back to the cue, except when she looked elsewhere, somebody behind me snug in. Seemed quite inefficient and chaotic, something you would expect in Southern Europe. Once at the kiosk, no problem checking in. Took about 10 minutes in all where it could have taken less than 5 and was not the most friendliest welcome to a FC pax. Who hadn't flown CO before. Once having the BC in hand, it was appropriately labeled with "OnePass Elite Access" to a separate, open security line, and it was a breeze to go through.

Presidents Club
The desk staff was nice, though apparently took some time to determine whether I was legit despite my BP having "Elite Plus" stated on it by the check-in person being on the computer for some minutes, but not at all in an unpleasant way. The club itself was nice and inviting, though barely with space enough (LAX) to not feel crowded. I liked the self-serve bagels and other breakfast items available with juices, tea and coffee. Too early in the morning to comment on the bar service. All in all a fine area, though I have been in better ones.

Boarding
CO seems to start boarding 10-20 minutes earlier than what I am used to (40-50 minutes prior to departure vs. 25-30 min prior), which really is nice - especially if you are in BF. The separate OnePass/FC/Elite Lane making you able to cut in front if coming after general boarding has started also is a very nice touch I miss at DL. The boarding process over all was smooth.

Cabin
The 2-1-2 BF layout in 7 rows on the 767-400 made for a nice, spacey feeling. The cabin was clean with a nice feel. The seat was very comfortable, especially for a domestic FC product, with an International pitch (55") and width (21") that was generous, though just a tad shy of DL BE in pitch, but plenty comfortable for my 6'3" frame. The foot-rest doesn't lift much off the floor, but appears to be no different than other International BC products, i.e. DL's. The recline was generous and it was easy to find a comfortable position whether wanting to work or sleep. There was a nice, comfortable and medium sized pillow with real cloth covering in each seat. Hard to imagine much better FC products to Hawaii. My only minor gripe was lack of individual vents. The cabin was just a tad hot for my taste with no recourse.

In flight service
This is where CO really shined. A one page menu was distributed prior to departure, but still had a 5 course menu (counting the nuts) with 3 main course choices described as in International travel menus. A thick, comfortable wet towel was handed out as soon as reaching 10,000 feet, followed by a beverage service with warm, mixed nuts. The appetizer were two nicely arranged lobster/prawn tails, very tasty with the accompanying sauce. This was followed by an individually served salad with two choices of dressing, an Italian type and thousand island. I chose the steak as the main course, served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to medium/medium-done and was delicious. A selection of different breads were offered throughout the meal. The desert cart contained ice cream sundae with all the trimmings, fruit platter, pastry and various choices of desert wines and liquors, well arranged. The table cloth was real cloth, the cutlery was all metal all the way! And real glasses and china were used.
The service was provided by 4 FA's, one in the gally and 3 in the cabin . They were attentive with several passes through the cabin with wine and asking about any empty glass. Couldn't wish for a better experience on a 5 hour flight.

Arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule. Coach paxes were held back until the BF cabin had exited - nice touch!!

Returning from Hawaii on CO 12 leaving 8:50 PM arriving in LAX 5:00 am.
Check in
The Kiosk while readily available, but refused to check me in ("checking with gate agent required" it said. Feared it meant the dreaded SSSS, but a live person behind the bank of kiosks checked me in without problems and gave me my BP. Don't know what the problem was, but as I left, seemed to have happened to another pax behind me. BP stamped all over with all the proper words: "One Pass Elite access", "Gold Lane" etc. (and nowhere the 4s's!!). Allocated to an empty "Gold Lane" security gate and went through in a breeze.

Presidents Club
Desk staff nice, though not outstanding and apparently had to look everybody up in their computer. The club itself was nice and inviting, and appeared more spacious than in LAX. Had a self-serve bar with a nice liquor selection (including my favorite Tequila) and some snacks, though no real food. All in all a fine area, though I have been in better ones.

Boarding
Boarding was announced 50 minutes prior to departure. Separate OnePass Elite lane. Boarding process overall was smooth. Preflight drinks were offered. The flight was overbooked as they were asking for volunteers and they did seem to struggle with a proper "headcount" in the back, but everything was tidied up for an on-time departure

Cabin
See the description of the outbound trip. This International BF configuration was especially nice on this overnight flight and was one of the main reasons I chose CO. Again, slightly annoyed with the warm temperature and lack of individual air vents

In-flight service
Even on this short overnight flight, I was impressed with the service offered. The FA's were pleasant and smiling and seemed eager to make sure the paxes were served and comfortable. No printed menu was distributed prior to departure, and there were no meal choices, but after the hot towel, warm nuts and drink-order, the meal was a generous serving of a very tasty corn-chilly soup and a hot beef sandwich. A tiny box of chocolates constituted desert. Again, the table cloth was real cloth, the cutlery was all metal all the way! And real glasses and china were used. The meal service was quickly completed and the lights dimmed. I decided to work for the first couple of hours and noticed regular passes through the cabin by one of the FA's during the time where most were asleep

Conclusion
You folks traveling CO certainly seems to have it nice if able to take your airlines premium product to Hawaii. I am going to try out the regular domestic FC product on CO as well as the International BF later this year and now have great expectation. If your airline can keep this up, I suspect it will be a draw to a stream of premium flyers from Delta. You can be proud! - wish I was one of you - wait..? Maybe I will become a OnePass member!!
