While it can be annoying when you're in the city, the main reason for this traffic flow pattern is simple: getting more cars of 93 quicker. :-: Think about it, if you are coming from the NORTH heading to the airport you now have to get off at the Callahan. :-: Coming from the South, you must exit the expressway much earlier than before onto the Ted Williams for the airport.

Both of these help get out of town cars headed to the airport do just that - and not clog up 93 inside the city. ^ I have definitely noticed that there are times (I said times, not all the time) that you can hop on the expressway and take it a few exits to get across the city in a N-S direction.
