It'll probably depend somewhat on "who" you run into. Up here in ANC, the TSA is totally cool with checked firearms. They know the drill and don't treat you with any additional suspicion as long as you are following the rules. I check a handgun with me on EVERY intrastate Alaska flight and on many interstate flights. I also use my own lock that could only be opened by brute force. I've never had a problem.
My encounter never made it as ar as TSA - this was strictly Delta Airlines. So far, I have no idea how TSA would/will react.
