No doubt there are more now, but this is nothing new. I can't find the site now, but there was a guy who led a tour in London (and people who do it in other cities) to help you spot the video cameras. I had checked out the photos on the site before I was last in London and it sure made me more aware of the cameras. There are tons of throughout London, and actually in every major city in England. (They're all over the US too. New Orleans as a couple of hundred in public areas, Chicago has something like 2,250 and there are more than 6,000 in New York City.)
There are of groups that do some funny protests for these cameras, mostly to let folks know they're well aware of them. They walk back and forth with signs that say: "No worries - just going to work," "Don't mind me, I'm just shopping," and so on. I always figure now that I'm pretty much being watched all the time - in private businesses and in public spaces.
