You're right, it used to make sense. You could distinguish 2-cabin vs. 3-cabin first class seats by F and P respectively; but now the only market they use P in is a market which uses exclusively 3-cabin aircraft. Wierd.

On a side note, does it ever bother you to pay a "first-class" fare JFKLAX and get the same seat you would get on SQ for a business class ticket, say SFOHKG, or the like? There's probably already a thread on this...
