I made an unplanned upgrade to Hi-MD earlier this year after I broke my old portable recorder, and went and bought a new one in a matter of minutes.

I'm very happy with Hi-MD. The sound quality of audio files transferred from CD via the MD Simple Burner software is very good for listening on headphones. I can also fit some 40 hours of speech in LP format on to a single disc from the audio gold mine that is the BBC Radio Player http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod

Whilst it would be easier to have everything on a self-contained IPod, I'm not a huge fan of the MP3 format when it comes to audio quality.

On Internet media, earlier this year the BBC trialed a new multicast stream of all its radio & TV channels. The sound quality of the radio stations was excellent and the TV streams were very impressive. BBC TV programmes will be available for viewing online on demand next year and BBC TV channels will also be streamed live - but these won't be officially available outside the UK.
