Well, AA did just post a profit last quarter for the first time in 5 years!
I think that it could make sense for members in their 20s who plan to continue to travel a lot for the rest of their lives.
Here are my questions:
a) Does this unpublished offer mean that AA is going to raise dues suddenly for the next membership year?
b) Do we all think that the membership costs will rise substantially enough over the next 35-40 years to make it worth it? (in other words, if the membership rates do NOT rise, I would break even in a little over 15 years. But if the membership dues double in the next 10 years, I already would be coming out ahead.)
I bet a lot of people thought $250 was a LOT of money for a LIFETIME membership back in the 70s or whenever it was offered at that rate. I would feel pretty stupid to pass up an offer of $5300/lifetime and then have membership rates increase over the next 20 years to $500/year for PLT.
