Laws in several states, plus the liability issue, plus the fact that at least two domestic airlines (or they claim, anyway) won't transport a firearm in checked luggage if the TSA opened it without the owner present.

So, unless I'm using the TSA approved locks on the case (which is tantamount to giving the gun away), it appears that either I'm present, or the gun does not fly (which is why, the one time it happened to me, I was paged to the CTX).
So I take it that wherever you work, the vast majority of guns either have TSA locks or don't make their flights, since no airline that I'm aware of will violate federal law and transport an unlocked gun case.
