In the area: Comerica Park (Tigers); Ford Field (Lions); Joe Louis Arena (Red Wings); numerous restaurants including the brightly lit and lively Greektown area; three casinos, movie theatres; the historic Fox Theater with frequent big name entertainment concerts, the Gem Theater with frequent live theater, the Detroit Opera Theater; within 10 minutes driving is the Mexican area with numerous good Mexican restaurants, the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Fisher Theater with traveling Broadway productions. In addition, right across the border from downtown Detroit is Windsor with numerous restaurants and other attraction. Shopping, however, is mostly in the suburbs, with world-class shopping available at the Somerset Collection in Troy, about a 35 minute drive from downtown, depending on traffic. Finally, Greenfield Village in Dearborn, about a 25 minute drive from downtown, is a world-class tourist attraction. Hope this helps. Sounds like the concierge wasn't interested or knowledgeable.
