Isn't the status shown on the card and therefore the one stored in their database the information they use for operational upgrades in the days prior to departure?

Hence a FB Silver boarding pass if you are a FB Plat means you never had any chance of an operational upgrade eventhough u might have been more deserving than the people that actually got the upgrade?
