Hi Mark,
Welcome to FT. I flew quite a bit on UA earlier this year and earned miles on Q, H, L, T, V and S class tickets. According to the BMI website, UA 'W' tickets also earn miles at the 1.0x rate. Many European carriers cheap tickets earn at 0.25x rate!

Check out this link. The date at the top can be misleading at times, since they fiddle with the tables and don't change the date. I have a copy printed out for quick reference!
