What's rather worrying is that the charges posted to your credit card. The least the hotel should do is make sure it has physical proof that the credit card matches the one in the file and/or said account is authorized for use. (I've paid for others by faxing over a credit card with signed authorization to several hotels that I frequent so that I pick up the charges and not the registered guest and I'd hate to see that go.)
