Journey time on Heathrow express is 8 minutes plus an average 7.5 minute wait for the train = 15 minutes

This is 1 hour already. I would be surprised if you get to the BMI check in desks in time for them to accept bags for check in

If they are separate tickets then they are under no obligation at all to you and they may well just require you to purchase a new ticket

I rang QF today and they've confirmed that there shouldn't be a problem checking bags through to BHD, but to make sure I tell them at check-in at MEL that I want them to do that.

Thanks again for all the help FTers... this forum is fantastic and all of the people so friendly and welcoming. I'll have to start checking out the FT corners of QP and sharing a few HPs!
