In any case it is slightly academic, as I'm guessing the fare I'm seeing is a W fare (based on historical experience), but the new booking engine does not show it .

The one thing i've learnt (I could be all wrong with this) about whether a particular fare earns miles or not to refer to the airline you're flying, not your FFP. It matters less which program is being credited.

If it is flagged by the flying carrier as an earning bucket, disregarding quantum (e.g. some FFP's within *A have Minimums), then it should earn some credit into your FFP of choice.

This is how it works from my understandingas an example)

1) Pax flies SQ Metal in W class . We know this does earn miles on KF
2) Pax credits flight to LH M&M
3) SQ has flagged it as mileage accruable, as it has received sufficient revenue from PAX to award miles
4) SQ checks to see where the miles should go - in this case it then PAYS LH for the credit of miles.
5) LH M&M receives money from SQ. End of transaction, and M&M is now "liable" to pax for the sum of miles.

When the pax then (as an example) redeems his/her LH Miles against an SQ award ticket - LH then pays SQ back for it, and reduces its liability to the PAX via a deduction in their M&M account.
