Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok) update

The latest on the new airport (from Mr Taksin, the primeminister) is that it will be open "no later than July 2006". The main problem is the road links including a new bridge over the Chao Praya river. The piles for the bridge are in place and you can see it from the Rama IX bridge if you are heading out of bangkok southerly toward Petchaburi, Hua Hin and the south. There is no roads yet between the piles as we speak. Other problems are substantial crackings on the runway shoulders because the marshlands on witch the airport is being put has not settled down. According to the new airport authority the cracks are intentional "to support additional taxiways to a new runway". I really can't figure that one out, but thats TIT (This Is Thailand). As yet, there seems no provision for an intra runway golf course like the one we have at good old Don Muang.
