I wont go into a long diatribe about all the problems we had with the Starwood CC rather let it suffice to say that we had massive miscommunications and decided to cancel. DH had the card for 4 months. Lo and behold all Starwood points in his Starwood acc't given by MBNA were removed the day after he cancelled. Acc'd to MBNA in the points contract(which of course we didnt get, only the cc agreement), any points in the Starwood acc't not yet redeemed and provided by MBNA are forfeited on cancellation of the card. When i queried , what would happen if we had held the card for 5 years and not redeemed, rep indicated we would have lost the points. In this case we were only talking about an insignificant #(less than 10,000 pts for purchases ). Obviously, our fault for not checking this out, but since this wasnt the same as Amex it never crossed our minds ie: where you have unredeemed points in your Amex membership rewards acc't and it is ONLY for the amex card, ... opposed to a seperate program sort of like Aeroplan gold and Aeroplan. I'd be astonished if CIBC did the same thing if one cancelled their Aeroplan card. Just wanted to make sure others had a heads up on this.
