By the years end I will make the top tier with Marriot, Hilton, IC, and Hyatt with something like 300+ nights. I haven't decided if I will go for the SPG Platinum as well.

Every single chain has their better and so so run properties. If I would drop the chain after one or two (or three or...) unsatisfied stays I could not stay with any of these chains.

If you do not get upgraded or if you are some other way unsatisfied with the hotel you must make it known with the front desk and manager. If nothing changes just move on and stay with other hotels.
