Tell your grandfather that the replacement workers aren't junior high school dropouts; they are real-life aircraft mechanics (many of whom were laid off from other major airlines in the last couple of years). The only difference is that they are not AMFA dues-paying mechanics. The AMFA has duped your grandfather into thinking that AMFA dues = safety.
If he refuses, then just pay the re-deposit fee and take your girlfriend instead.
