I haven't traveled in Egypt but have lived and/or traveled in other Moslem countries. My clothing of choice: "broomstick skirts" (mid-calf length), worn with thin cotton middle-upper-arm-to-elbow sleeve length cotton or silk t-shirts with a modest scoop neck. These skirts pack well, don't show wear or wrinkles (they're wrinkled already) and are much cooler than shorts or slacks and are very comfortable as they have elastic or drawstring waists. A couple of print skirts with solid color t-shirts to coordinate and you're ready for anything. I've even ridden camels and climbed ladders wearing them (I wore thin cotton bike shorts underneath for modesty). I always had a large silk square scarf rolled up in my purse for head and shoulder covering if needed. The silk won't take up much room and isn't hot.
