If I book her into the local Marriott, can I put my name down as a guest? Then I show up and pay, and tell them "she'll be along later". That way, she would get the stay credit.

How would you work this?
In my experience, I have never had problems when my MR# was on the reservation, but my wife checked in. Many times, she would arrive ahead of me, and I would just call her on the cell and meet her at the room. I never showed my face at the front desk, but was credited for the stay.

As for the credit card, anyone can pay for the room. I have paid for rooms for my relatives with my MR card, and received the Visa points, but not the stay credit, as their MR# was on the reservation.
