I've seen this in action too, and it seems to help. During the summer we get lots of "Ma & Pa Kettle" type travelers who are confused by the "new system." When I'm not in a hurry I try to help people (like the cruise ship types) who seem confused. I'd encourage AS to have a staffer floating around during peak summer hours to provide general assistance.
