Arrow Hampton Inn & Suites Tahoe-Truckee {US-CA}

Stayed here last night, after the hotel had been open for about one month. Just needed one night as it was part of a roadtrip with my gf. Got a room by using points (I know, 30,000 is insane for a Hampton, but I still have the points I need). Looks like I might be getting those points back though (more on that later). Just so you know for this review, I'm a gold member.

Anyways, got to the hotel later than planned, around 9PM. They already had the keys made to a room for us, and just as they were handing us the keys, they noticed that they had accidently placed someone else in our room. They mentioned the hotel was full, and handed us keys to another room after about a 5 minute wait. They apologized for giving away our room, and told us that they would be moving us to the only other available room, a 2 room king suite. I thanked them for the upgrade, and we proceeded to the room.

Upon entering the room, I immediately noticed that this was not a suite, but a regular room. I did not mind this, as I knew an upgrade was not guaranteed.
What I did mind, however, was all the smoke that I smelled once entering the room. My preferences list as non-smoking, and the original room that I had assigned to me was non-smoking. In essence, this was a downgrade instead of an upgrade as originally told. I immediately called the front desk, and they told me that there was nothing that they could do, as the hotel was full.

Even with the window wide open, the smell wouldn't go away. I started to get a headache around midnight, and decided to go for a walk with my gf before bed. I was really unhappy in the room. As I was walking to the door, I stopped by the front desk and asked again if there was any other room available. Once again, I got the same answer.

After walking around, we got back into the room at 12:30 and decided to go to sleep. After we were already in bed, the phone rang. At that point it was 1AM. It was the front desk, letting us know that they found a room to move us to. I found this really annoying, but was happy to move because of the smoke issue. We packed our stuff and dragged it downstairs, only to find that the new room was right next door. Back up we went.

Upon entering the room, I realized that this was the suite I was told I would be getting earlier on. Nice living room with refrigerator and microwave, as well as a seperate bathroom. The bedroom had a king bed with a second TV, and the bathroom was huge with a whirlpool bath and a seperate glass enclosed shower. Definately the nicest HI room I have ever seen. Too bad it was past 1AM, no time to really take advantage of it.

Upon checkout, I asked to talk to the GM, but was told she was unavailable. Called her the next day, and told her that I did not feel that I had a good stay, as I felt that my stay started at 1AM. She apologized, and asked what she could do. I told her that I was interested in getting my points back. She replied by telling me that she has only been a GM for 1 and a half weeks, and to give her up to a week to call Hhonors and ask about getting my points back.

Overall, I would say that the hotel is very nice, and isn't designed like your typical HI. The exterior is wooden, which fits the area very well and makes the hotel look like a lodge. I would stay here again, but I feel that they still need to work out a few kinks. Let me know if you guys have any questions, and I will update as to what kind of compensation I get from the hotel.
