I've always wondered if you could set up an AAdvantage account with first initial, lastname and then have family members with the matching names fly that way. ie, if I were married and my wife's name started with a T, we could get a single AAdvantage account with the name "T HAGALE" and every boarding pass/reservation would be made with "T HAGALE". This would work as long as:

a) the two people never had overlapping travel (which given my current trends would be impossible.)
b) new security regulations don't get passed requiring the full name of the flyer, not just the first initial.
It's been done before .... and the biggest issue was when someone used their full name on an AA.com booking and the AA systems would kick out the AAdvantage number saying it didn't match the name on the reservation. A manual insertion of the FFN by AAgents (including at even the EXP Desk) or even retroactive credit were not an issue.
